Gmail and Round Numbers
I now have a Gmail account thanks to the fine people over at Chicagoist. I was the only person to respond to a contest so it was an automatic thing. I choose to assume that my idea would have proven to be the best in the end had others decided to participate. But they did not. So nana nana nana. I win.
What, one may ask, will I do with yet another email address? Thanks for asking. I'll tell you. Prior to this I was having all comments sent to my mail.com email address. Their service is web based and add ridden so it is kid of a pain. Now I will use that box strictly as my spam email box. You know the one you use when you register software or when you are signing on to a site you know is going to sell your address a couple million times. This is the place where pharmacy and porno advertisements go to die.
The new Gmail box allows me to see which thread I need to go back to and reply to Shy's response to my response to infinity. We are currently arguing flying monkeys in the chimera thread.
Then there is the elite thing about it where you get to send out invitations to people. This let's people know that you are one of the Google Illuminati and you wish to sponsor their membership in said organization. I've already kicked out a few to the cool people in my address book (There aren't that many in the address book). But I still have 3 left and I might be willing to share given a certain amount of ego boosting praise. It doesn't have to be sincere. You can fake it. I don't mind.
So why am I writing about this? Well because I read something one someone else site and I felt it better to comment on Gmail rather than the parade of news stories about the fact that we've hit yet another round number in deaths in Iraq. The stories sound like we've hit some kind of milestone. "1000 dead next stop 1500!"
In Summary: I have Gmail invites. Flying monkeys better than smart cats. Every death a tragedy, get over the round numbers.

Hmm, welcome to gmail. How do you get the ability to send those invites though? I have been a gmail user for about a week and it seems like everyone but me gets those magical 6 invites. Oh well....
There is a little blue bar above your inboc when you first log in that tells you that you have invitations.
