cats and concrete
What is it about cats and concrete?
My cat comes to see me each day when i come home after work or from the store or from wherever (if she is outside). rather than meeting me half way in the grass, she trots over to sidewalk to roll over for me to pet her. In fact, i don't recall her ever rolling over in the grass for me to pet her. in the back yard, there is a slab of concrete for a make shift porch. She rolls on this for me to pet her.
This got me thinking. A lot of mom and dads cats do the same. instead of rolling in the grass, they choose concrete or a patch of dirt. With the exception of Chester (a serious attention whore) , i can't recall them ever dropping onto the lush lawn and rolling. concrete, dirt, a piece of plywood, the pool deck, but not the lawn.
This is not to say these cats avoid grass. they hunt in it, romp about in it, walk through it with no problems, they just don't want to be petted while in it...
So what is with the aversion to grass? is this a limited observation? Why does it seem so many have an aversion to it?

Now that you mention it, my cat loves the concrete and smears his whole face and body around on its surface. I think you're on to something here.
Our cats have always been indoor cats. I think it might be the cement absorbs more heat during the day. My cats will hang out on the dryer. The fat one uses and empty box as a kind of air mattress.
I have several outside cats and they are pretty much the same way. I do have one, however, that will plop down anywhere to get attention.
