Beverage Thoughts

I'm not one to jump on the Americans are fat people who eat huge monstrous meals rant. I like steak. I like ice cream. There is something wrong with a person who doesn't eat chocolate or takes a pass on a piece of chocolate cake. Food can be one of the greatest joys and comforts in life.

Today, however, I noticed something. I went for my walk early as it was a relatively pleasant day and Beverly sidewalks are well shaded by elderly trees. I wasn't really risking a sunburn, and one can not see women in summer dresses wandering the streets in the evening. For that kind of eye candy one must brave the sun. (And there were a couple of visions to be had). So I get to my destination at turning point of my walk (I need a destination. I need to be going somewhere otherwise I'm just meandering about with no focus and no drive) and stop in Panera Bread to get a bagel and a beverage. (I had intended to be bad and get two bagels but as I was walking away I noticed there was only one in my bag and the recite only said one so I thought the diet spirits were looking out for me and took it as a sign.(and I never like to make a scene)). I order a large pop thinking it is a long trip and I'm thirsty I need a lot of fluid to fight dehydration. Then the woman hands me a cup that is just about the same size as a big gulp.

For a brief moment the idea of getting a sugar soda crossed my mind but I fought temptation and got the diet. As I was walking home however it occurred to me that people probably get a regular sugar soda in a glass this size all the time. Here I'm holding over a quart of beverage and its not like its packed with ice. It is one of those self serve deals. How many calories would that be with a Pepsi or a coke? How many more with a Mountain Dew. Probably more than a human needs to consume in a day and that in just one beverage.

Those cups should come with a surgeon's general warning on em: Will cause obesity and elevate your blood sugar to a whole new plain.

Heck the caffeine count in the quart plus of diet soda that I consumed was probably more than is healthy.

You can't even finish one of these things without being within easy reach of a bathroom. Your bladder is over matched. It never stood a chance really.

In summary: It is summer dress season. Monster cups should have warning labels. The last couple blocks of my walk home were almost a run. (my bladder was crying).

just to ruin your day, i have the calorie count for the big gulp and its friends (coca-cola):
Big Gulp 32oz 300
Super Big Gulp 44oz 415
Double Gulp 64oz 600

Mountain Dew is 110
so i think that's 32oz 40
44oz 605(ish)
64oz 880

i'm too lazy to hit the desktop key and see what my calculator says. correct me if i'm wrong or just drink the caffeinated yet diet version.

The appeal of the summer dress. a thin cotten fabric with a colorful design that cloaks the body yet accentuates cutves and with the light behind it is transparent to the figure. Jeans are a wonderful i candy piece as well but these months I hope for the summer dress.

Hmm not nearly as many calories as I thought they would be. Sitll pretty hefty sugar dose. bet the dentist cringes.
