insert expletive here

i woke up late this morning. too late to wash my hair before work. that may not sound like such a big deal, but it is. i have fine, blonde hair, thus it gets nasty around my roots within a day and nights time. it feels worse than it looks--and it looks bad. i'd wash it when i shower before bed but washing it twice a day leads to a dry scalp.

moving on.

my sinus headache was particularly painful this morning. data entry and headaches do not match. work was long and tedious. my type speed dropped from last week. 14,890 keystrokes/hour to 14,450. only about 25c's pay difference but when you make an average of 7 dollars an hour, it matters. to make matters worse, i had a list of shit to do after work.

after work, i must go and pick up my portfolio which was to be read this weekend by the almighty english education department and evaluated. dead line is approaching. must get it all accepted. i must drop off bills at the post office. I must call and make an appointment with my new education advisor before 4 (more on why i need to do this later). i need to drop by interlibrary loans and ask what's taking so long on my request. i used to work there. 2.5 weeks is well over the normal amount of time a photocopy request takes.

3pm. finally. i stop mid-batch and attach a "please finish, thank you :) sticky note. no time to finish the batch myself. i drive straight to Simpkins Hall to pick up my portfolio. i dropped it off two weeks ago. they did not read it last weekend. there were too many portfolios for them to get through. nice excuse for them. i walk in, Ellen looks at me, barely smiles. she seems to know what i want. she turns, goes into her office and comes out about 3 minutes later, trying to smile. they did not read my portfolio this weekend. that does not change the deadline. insert expletive here. it is not Ellen's fault. i know this. i smile and stare at her like she's joking. she looks at me and says "i'll see if they can make time to read yours this week. You're trying to student teach in the spring, right?" i nearly shit myself. why would they read the portfolios of other students who are not trying to student teach over those who are? one would think that if there were too many, they would read those in need of being read first. wrong again.

i leave--trying not to scream because once again, it is not Ellen's fault and she's really not that bad and doesn't deserve the wrath of a psycho blonde.
i drop off the bills. need stamps. stamp machine refuses my dollar umpteen times. a long line awaits me. i wait 7 minutes in line for a 37 cent stamp from the cashier. he winked at me. i imagined taping his mouth....ah never mind.

i get home. the landlord showed the house today even though my lease is not up until august. i gave him the key because they are unorganized and he said they didn't have a key to the house. i reach in the mail box to retrieve my key. no key. door is locked. i need to call my advisor by 4. it is 3:40. i am pissed. i go around back and kick my door open. Rich can confirm that most rentals here are shoddy.

i was actually saddened that it took only two kicks to open the door. it sure felt good. this is where the lock used to be.

i will have to find a new piece of wood to attach these parts back to. i decimated the rotting piece it used to be attached to.

now why do i have to call my advisor? didn't i have a meeting with him last week? Yes. yes i did. All students in the teacher education department hoping to teach in the spring were to be in Horrabin Hall at 4pm last wednesday. we were to get there early. i took off work at 3 instead of 4 on wednesday just to be there early.

guess what?

although my WIU bills, NCTE notifications, and anything and everything from Western come to my address, they sent a reminder card with the rescheduled time to my parents address. mom didn't even get the little reminder card until thursday. So, i walk in at what i think is early (3:30) to a meeting rescheduled for 3. i look like an ass.

so i call my new advisor today (as he instructed) to set up a new time. he must have been having a bad day too because he was far from polite. i meet with him next monday and i will bring my work request where i requested off an hour early in hopes that he'll realize that i wasn't lying, lazy or disrespectful. he made me want to cry.

hanging up the phone i notice a note on the table. it said thanks. my key was lying on the note. insert expletives here. he locked my key in the house even though i told him to leave it for me in the mail box. insert more expletives here.

interlibrary loans is closed by the time i remember to call.

i try and make spaghetti for supper. sauce and meatballs are fine. i burned an entire pot of noodles while taking a shower and finally getting to wash my hair.

I quit.

On the bright side, you got all the lousy stuff out of the way within the context of one day. AND you got to kick in a door. How cool is that? All of us reading your post were likely thinking the same thing: that it would be incredibly cathartic to go medieval on a door.

Remind me not to complain about my harsh laying around the house not working life.

Every house in that town can use a scrape and a coat of paint. Most probably need to be bulldozed or to at least have large sections replaced. My shack on the tracks was no where near the worst in the area.

Yes, kicking in doors, that does indeed sound fun. Well, or at least a good stress relief.

I'm sorry you had such a bad day. It's all up hill from here.
