Just Another Word
Sometimes songs get stuck in the head. There is no helping this. Maybe it is a catchy lyric or an original style. Sometimes it is just annoying repetition (Hey Macaerna!)
It is a good song, one might not even notice. One just goes about the day skipping and humming, occasionally a half sung half mumbled phrase escapes the lips. It's not like anyone thinks this is crazy behavior. It is almost assumed that the weirdo is wearing some kind of wireless telephone.
If its a bad song it can almost hurt. I know why people take power tools to their heads. It isn't about getting the demons and the voices out, its all about making the bad bad music end.
For me, for the last few days it was Janis Joplin singing Kris Kristofferson's "Me and Bobby McGee" As far as songs go it is a pretty good one to have in your head. Janis had that amazing voice and the lyrics are pretty easy to keep straight (though when she starts going into the "na na na na na" part I get dangerously close to a repetitive loop in the head). The phrase that really stuck out in my head was, "Freedom is just another word for nothing left to loose."
So anyway this song, especially that phrase is going around in my head today when I'm stuck in the dentist's chair. There are all sorts of monster power tools and sharp implements all over the place with suction, goo and blood. So I'm not doing much talking. This, of course, doesn't stop conversation from going on around (over the top of) me. The conversation makes it way around to myspace, internet dating and other such computer stuff.
I am a geek.
I want to talk about computers. I want to express my views about myspace and match.com. I know where this stuff is. I should be a part of this conversation.
But there are fingers and tools and things that make loud whirling noises in my mouth so I can not participate in the conversation, except a brief bit at the end. I briefly summarize the Diva's recent experience with myspace. I give a brief rundown on the various internet dating services that I occasionally browse. Then the conversation moves on, the doc finishes his work and I'm on my way home.
So I start thinking about myspace, about the doc saying his friend is getting mail from people he knew in school, about the Diva's new fake myspace persona and of course, "Me and Bobby McGee" is playing in my head.
Nothing left to loose. Internet privacy. No personal assets. No enemies (that I know of). A person could try and steal my identity and they would get laughed at by their fellow criminals. I have no credit, and there is no way they could get any in my name. Quite simply there is no reason why I couldn't set up a myspace profile with my full name. My identity is pretty much theft proof.
I've heard things, mostly bad, about myspace. The Diva's account makes me think it is the land of the less than internet savvy, but my morbid curiosity knows no bounds. I must know if it is truly appalling as they say. Updates to come!

If you want to be Daphne's friend, let me know. :)
I have seriously considered turning it into more of a research project - asking my friends about their own myspace experiences. I haven't gotten around to it, but I may still do it. I am still curious, and there must be more to it than I'm seeing. I'm interested to see how it goes for you.
And those songs...they're earworms. Now I have it. See, you passed Bobby McGee along to me now, and I'm stuck with it until I can find someone to pass it along to.
Oh - and P.S. - I got the idea for the fake myspace from forums.somethingawful.com (although unless you have a registered account you can no longer browse). A couple of SA goons set up a myspace profile using (what looked like) a photo of female cleavage, but it was actually the smooshed together cleavage of one of the guys. They posted the messages they received from guys on the SA forums (funny messages about how hot her chest was, etc.). Good stuff.
I will not display my man boobs as such. They are much to hairy. It would be off putting.
The profile is up and it is here.
So far with only one picture and very litte info actually posted I've only garnered three page views and one frieds request.
The friends request came from a woman who had many many cleavage shots on her page. I of course added her.
We should definately add daphne and expand the network. I think I need to add m ore pictures and see what happens. Maybe bust out the video camera. hmmmmm
I'm in.
I wonder what my name should be?
@Stefy@ is indeed a bit busty.
Thanks for adding Daphne to your friends list. Going by what others did to me, I think I'm supposed to post a comment on your page that says, "Thanks for the add" and include an animated .gif. Eh. I'm not quite that advanced yet.
Kate, hmmm...the sky is the limit, and it doesn't even need to be a name, really. It's late, so I think I'll sleep on it. Otherwise I would end up suggesting something like Duayne (with a U, not a W), and we all know that just ends badly.
