Sober Chicago Thoughts
Ok so now the sox have won the world series. Even though I'm not a sports fan it is impossible to be a Chicagoan and not have this knowledge. They started shelling the southside (ok maybe it was fireworks and not artillery) shortly after the final out.
Just so I can keep people clear about things let me say what this victory means to me.
Tonight some idiot is going to beat his spouse because his team lost.
Even more disturbing:
Tonight some idiot is going to beat his spouse because his team won (and she said or did something that diminished his euphoria).
Tonight southsiders will drive drunk in record numbers.
Tonight children have been up way past their bed time and will either miss school tomorrow or just have a hard time staying awake in class.
Tonight the bookies in Vegas are the big winners.
Tonight people will get so drunk they wont make it to work tomorrow. This may cost them their jobs.
Tonight people are risking hypothermia yelling and screaming in a cold wet parking lot.
Tonight people will think that watching this ball game was one of the best moments of their lives and this is sad.
Tonight an inordinate number of police are tied up in crowd control while other crimes still continue.
Tonight the Chicago White Sox won the World Series.

I was playing EQ when the people in this quiet 'burb lost their minds. Outside my open window, cars honking, people screaming, dollar fireworks going off.
It only lasted for about 5 minutes but I knew what it meant and I still didn't care.
Baseball lost me way back in the "70's.
what was it that i said last time?...oh yeah. Spoilsport.
Though i fully agree that it's a shame that women are going to be beaten because of a few baseball games.
America seems to be divided into two main camps:
1 - Those who view sport as something to be watched.
2 - Those who would much rather participate.
So-called professional sports, with their crybaby, steroid-popping "athletes", hold no interest to me any more.
I'd rather be doing the pedalling, the running, or whatever else it takes to drive myself further. Sitting on a couch, eating potato chips while watching "my team" does nothing for me.
Simple things...
Wow I go on about the strange and unusual and the comment reader can read zero. Vent my anger about the sports watching culture and the world pipes in. Hmm must test thsi theory. Tomorrow I tackle the black magic of economics.
