The South Has Risen
Something like 11 states took a step back into the good old days of hate. The fact that Bush got re elected bothers me a bit, but I figure once he gets done destroying the middle class in the next four years enough people will wake up to economic disaster that is our current fiscal policy. This policy being the one where we make it easier for corporate America to suck every last cent from the working man while providing the bare minimum to employees.
Wal - Mart is already one step ahead of the trend. The new television ad campaign where they show all the veterans as proud Wal - Mart associates is an attempt to tie the current idiotic / patriotic fervor to brand loyalty. I look at those advertisements and wonder how it is that people who served our country and had access to veterans benefits are stuck with lousy Wal - Mart jobs. One would think that people with access to a college education might be able to do a little better.
The people who made the movie Fight Club weren't afraid that it might send a seditious anti - consumerist, anti - fashion, anti - corporate message. They knew that by turning all of the anger and angst into Brad Pitt they could sell and package anger and disruption on the wide screen. In the same way that people bought pre made tie died t - shirts they lined up to see an on screen revolution that they would only ever dream about in their wildest fantasies.
So now we have states that packaged a legal hate. We can't hate the immigrant, we can't sexually harass women, it becomes increasingly difficult for the bigot to express his or her rage and now they have an outlet. They can say that God thinks it is wrong for people of the same sex to love and marry each other. When did God come down and talk to these people. How ignorant can these evangelists get. It seems they forget about the little part where their savior told em to love one another.
I think it is time to abandon conventional means. It's time to find out what companies gave money to not only the re election campaign but to these anti - gay marriage groups and form a boycott. If we are going to have political candidates who are bought and paid for by large corporate donors then I'm only going to support the corporations who buy politicians I like. And if it hurts the economy? Good. And if people loose their jobs? Good. Its time to economically punish those who support this theocratic state.
