Practical Vs. Geek.
I want one of these but I'm pretty sure owing one would pretty much doom me to never having a sex life again. To take that step one might as well truly move in to the basement and start investing in movie posters and the like. This makes me wonder if my dream to own an original piece by Phil and / or Kaja Foglio means mentally I have already crossed that line. You can check out the original stuff here and decide.
Another dream, and this is one of those one day when I have unlimited wealth dreams, is to become a collector of original artwork done for science fiction and fantasy novels and magazines. Every day there is so much great work produced and sold and barely admired but a brief glimpse as we open the page to get to the escapism. I would like to have a place to store and display the original canvases, and I'm sure in many cases they don't even exist anymore tossed aside their purpose served, but a wonder it would be to walk through a room of such magnificent renderings of an authors words. Check out the creations of Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell. Their angels and devils always like real because they give em such a human quality.
These are only a few of the artists I'm familiar with (not personally but am a fan of their work) and I'm sure I could fill many a day learning about the life and work of other artists who graced the covers of the fantastic and futuristic.
