Not a Total Humbug
With my anti consumer ranting I'm sure I come off as unpleasant and unhappy about the Holiday season. This isn't entirely the case. I like to visit with the family. I love the food of the season. I like getting stuff from friends and family. (Toys of course I never abandoned that part of my inner child). I like to see kids open presents.
I could do without yet another made for TV version of A Christmas Carol, though I might be inclined to read some Charles Dickens at some unspecified future date (not exactly a big fan. I will not commit to that).
I absolutely adore Dylan Thomas' "Child's Christmas in Wales." I promised no Amazon links within the 24 hour period of the evil that is "Black Friday." I did, however, find some sites that are probably violating copyright laws. I feel strongly about borrowing content without permission so I wont post the text myself, but oddly enough I have no problem linking to a site that already hosts material they possibly do not have the right to be displaying. So you can read this wonderful piece here.
I could not find anyone hosting an mp3 of Thomas reading the material himself. While reading the words to yourself or out loud you can get a feel for what Thomas sounds like to really experience this piece at its best one needs to listen to Thomas deliver it.
And all in all I'm a fan of the Jesus. Not partial to his churches and can't say I'm accepting him as the big cheese, but I like the sermons. I like the parables. Pretty decent non violent activist sort of guy and I really have no problem celebrating his birthday. So while I may get down on the commercials and the TV specials and the legislation a lot of his followers are pushing for, I'm pretty excited about the other parts of his birthday.

I believe that if the copyright has expired and something is in the public domain, it's okay to post in its entirety.
And I think of the quotes, et. al, that I post as something similar to a term paper - where I cite the source (okay, maybe not using the proper MLA format but cited all the same).
A former Literature professor of mine reads my blog and he thinks it's okay as long as I give credit. I'm not trying to say either one of us is right or wrong (do whatever you're comfortable with), I'm offering my 2 cents' worth.
