At least it is Thursday
I swear some people just need to be written off due to their stupidity (do feel free to leave ideas on how to do so in your comments. suggestions are always appreciated and sometimes even enlightening). I won’t limit this to those who refuse or can’t use their turn signals either. Obviously, I’ve had another lousy day at work. But this time, it wasn’t just due to me not wanting to be being there.
Even on days that I absolutely do not want to be at work, I make an effort to do my job efficiently and also make and effort to be conscientious of the work I’m doing.
The pay at my job is based off of type speed. Thus, it’s important to work quickly. However, one must keep in mind that someone else will have to re-enter (verify) their work before it can go into the finished pile. Each batch, depending on the type of form (there are eight or nine types) has 20-40 documents which must be entered. The forms are to be entered exactly, we are not to correct spelling errors, not to exceed letters that are written outside of the boxes…blablabla.
When verifying, if the number you enter differs from the one the person before you entered, you must type that number/name again. If you screw up on re-entering the number/name the second time, you have to start over, re—entering the new name twice again….this really bites when the doctor/patient name is mostly consonants or letters that don’t make sense together…the brain just doesn’t want to type Twryqsid or Twiksispursky . ..notice that the q is not followed by a u in the first name another brain jamming incident. It also slows down your type speed, lessening your pay rate.
It isn’t uncommon for an entire batch or set of batches to be from the same hospital/ provider. It seems that one person who I work with doesn’t look at the provider space very often because she often gets the name wrong on the first document and continues to type it incorrectly or to ignore that the hospital/provider name changed for the entire batch. Today, while I was verifying her forms, she either corrected or failed to notice that Illinois was spelled Illiniois in the provider space…so I had to type the entire hospital name twice each document ---.
Then, to top things off, she screwed up another batch that I happened to be verifying. In the name of the hospital, there was the roman numeral II. She insisted that this was IL even though it was OBVIOUSLY NOT IL. If it’s difficult to tell due to bad hand writing, the verifier may key F8 to see what the person before them keyed and enter what they did so they don’t have to correct it. This wasn’t the case. Throughout the entire batch, there was not one document that looked like it was IL. NOT ONE.
What pisses me off the most is that she’s worked there a year longer than I have. When someone screws up consistently, you are to tell the supervisor so they can correct the person. I guess she just ignores the supervisor. Why they don’t fire her I don’t know. All I know is that the next time she brags about her type speed, I’m probably going to lose my job and my gun license because I’m going to have to break a keyboard over her head.
Keep in mind that it doesn’t bother me when someone new screws up. There are 8 or nine forms, each different and with their own set of rules. It takes a while to learn all of them.
