Stubborn Midwestern Mindset
So once again it seems spring is going to take a pass on the Midwest. A little over a week ago it was cold enough to wear light winter gear or perhaps a couple layers. (I'm a fleece hoodie and denim man myself). Tomorrow we expect a high of 84 degrees Fahrenheit.
One could turn could turn on the air conditioning any time.
Living in the Midwest, however, we expect a certain amount of time where we can through open the windows and air the house out. We get tired of breathing the same air. We get of all the dust involved in forced air heating and cooling. We want a gentle breeze through the screen and maybe a slightly cooler night to sit outside with a beer.
The fact that it is almost too hot during the day to will not stop us. No. It doesn't matter if the weather makes you perspire, what matters is that it is Spring and that is the time for open windows and fresh air dried sheets (Ok maybe not the sheets thing. Maybe in a more rural setting where the neighbors can not see the linen hanging out.)
The same is true, of course, for the cleaning. The leaves and pine cones will be raked. The soil will be seeded. The lawn will be watered and mowed and the first sign of growth. It is that time of year and these things will happen.
In Summary: The lack of spring certainly seems to be good evidence of Global warming. All across Chicago and the Midwest people will air out there homes for as long as humanly possible before the heat eventually forces em to turn on the air conditioning. All around Beverly the yard work crews are busy, busy, busy.
