Last Call
It's last call at the Corruption trough. "Whatever are you talking about?" one might ask. Let me explain.
It's election season and the airwaves are full of mud. Almost everyone running for office in Illinois is vowing to clean up, or put an end to corruption, with the possible exception of our governor Blago. He won his office on that promise. It sounds bad, running for reelection after four years, saying something like that. Makes people wonder what those previous four years had been all about. No, I think the governor is promising to have another child. (Ok maybe not but his terrible Television spot seems to imply that having a child was one of the major accomplishments of his tenure of office. If that is the case then shouldn't the state expect em to pop one out with every four year term?)
The state Treasurer, Judy Baar Topinka is the front runner for the Republican nomination so all the underdogs are taking shots at her. Jim Oberwies is running a distant second in the polls so his campaign is laying on the dirt pretty heavy. He is just trying to find a way to say her name and George Ryan's in the same sentence in such a way that the media will play it a couple dozen times a day.
Fraud, Corruption and changing Illinois that is the kind of nonsense they are spewing at us now. The scary thing is I think that soon enough there will come a time where we will miss that kind of political add.
When the South Dakota abortion ban hits the Supreme Court the game changes. When the court votes to overturn Roe V. Wade (not what I want just what I predict will be the ultimate result of this ban going to the Supreme Court) it will come down to the state level to make laws about abortion. So every election season we will see heavy rotation of political advertisements paid for by pro choice and anti - abortion activists. It will become the only issue to speak to. No journalist will care what the politicians fiscal plan is for the state or about property tax re zoning. The only question will be, "Where do you stand on abortion?" and the politician better have an answer one way or the other because it really will matter at the state level at that point.
So I'm calling last call for Corruption. Get your fill while the getting is good. You will miss this melodrama when it is gone.

Why is it that we give these ratfinks second chances? other than with the required gingerlyness (spelling?) that it one would normally use,I wonder how they'll sit on the fence on this one.
