Clothing Condition Red
Ok so the dryer broke today. It might be the igniter. It might be time to replace the dryer. I have no idea really as I'm not a nuts and bolts lets look under the hood sort of guy. The old man is and it was his assessment. So tomorrow he is going to buy a new igniter and if that doesn't work a new dryer.
The thing is I've pretty much hit the end of my supply of clean pants and underwear. I've got some shorts. I've got a pair of jeans I can wear if I "suck it in a little." but most everything else is either in the bathroom hamper or in my bedroom pile of dirty laundry that flows from the tiny little laundry basket. I would take pictures of this but I thought better of it. And I was busy getting pictures of everybody in the Elmo costume head thingy my aunt made years ago and my cousin walked in the door wearing the other day. Here is one of my better poses.
Anyway the little brother and his wife have been monopolizing the washer and dryer for the last couple days which didn't bother me as they do the same thing I do, wear absolutely everything you own then spend a day doing laundry.
When I was living in Macomb this went faster as we never had a washer / dryer in the places I lived. (Well Shy brought the washer to the place on West Pierce but we didn't have a dryer so I didn't use it). I would get someone to either go with me or drop me off at the Laundromat and then I would just load up six or eight washers at a go. Everything cleaned in thirty minutes. Everything is dry after maybe another thirty minutes (usually forty five the dryers didn't get all that hot. Then maybe stop at the drive through on the way home for a quick meal of taco bell or hardees.
You would think that with the convenience of a home washer dryer I would change my habits. Nope. My only slight change is to throw clothes in the towel hamper in the bathroom on occasion as I'm the one who has to wash and fold that stuff anyway I might as well get some of mine clean at the same time.
This time as the brother and his wife were using the machines I just let the hamper fill for an extra day. And now the machine is broke and me with no clothes.
If it is just the igniter then I can haul the monster bag o clothes down to the basement tomorrow and get started on the first load of coloreds. (I separate. Not like some brother I could mention). If we need to replace the dryer I am scared to think how long before whoever we buy it from delivers the appliance. I just don't think it will fit in the back of the old man's minivan.
So if things go bad I may be in shorts under huddled up in a wool blanket looking like some kind of war refugee seeking shelter from the cold. Or as Shy might attest it was everyday where at the shack on the tracks. My one complaint about the Midwest these days is that we have no more autumn or spring. Summer just ended and now its like winter. I can feel the cold coming in to my seriously holed sweat pants that I keep for clothing emergencies.
Ok maybe I wear the sweat pants all the time but never out of the house.
Ok maybe out of the house but never where anyone can see me.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Oh boy. I don't know what we would do if the dryer broke - we go through ALOT of laundry around here. Before we got thi new(er) dryer, we had one from the 1950's. To get it started, I had to hold the start button in, and stick my foot inside the dryer and sort of kick-start it to get it going. Then I had to shut the door really quick without tripping myself. Yup, those were good days. I can probobly get you a good deal on that dryer, in fact.
On the plus side - you could do your laundry and just drape it over every piece of furniture you own, plus any balconies or stair railings...(yeah - I'd wait for the ignitor too).
my dryer broke not long ago. it turned out to be a fuse thingy. a man came and fixed it, commented that the dryer could use some new belts (that's what is causing it to hop about). i shrugged, he left. dryer still hops about.
i miss having dad around--he would have fixed it for the price of parts.
Check out Everyday Absurd got a picture of the burned out igniter. We have dryer!
And who am I kidding coloreds. I should have said first load of greys or first loaf of darks (black navy blue, forest green)
